Tables and chairs for schools of tea gardens

The first desks and benches

On Sunday 30th December, 35 kits of desks ande benches have been handed at the primary school of Chatlapur village. Thanks to the generosity of many friends, in a few days more than 2 thousands US dollars have been collected.

The Divine Providence will certainly provide a little more! In January the children of the schools of Palkichora and Patrokhola T.E. too will receive their desks and benches.

The Project

The Sylhet Catholic diocese some years ago created and till now has being taking care of numerous primary schools in the villages of the tea workers and of the “pan” leaves and “betel” nuts farmers. These schools are giving a great service to the indigenous families. They consist of very simple buildings but allow the children to study.

Some of these schools do not have desks or chairs for the children, who have to sit on the ground and read and write on their notebooks bent toward the floor.

We would like to provide at least some these schools, in the villages of Saint Michael the Archangel mission, of desks and benches for our littles students. Before Christmas we will help the schools of the villages of Palkichora and Chatlapur, attended by 150 children in two shifts.

We ask you to collaborate with this project. Every set of desk and bench is for two children and costs 40 USD.  For these two schools 40 desks and 40 benches are needed.
